The Vatican has come out to clarify the comments credited to the Pope on homo sexual unions. According to the Vatican in a letter reportedly forwarded to all Catholic Bishops around the world, it explained that the Pope's comments were heavily edited to the contrary.
His comments they said did not actually change or opposed the Catholic Church's stand on
homosexuality. We may recall that in an interview which was aired on 21st of October, it showed the Pope saying that homosexuals have the right to be in a family and that civil union laws covering homosexuals are needed.
In the clarification letter sent to
Catholic Bishops across the world as reported, the Vatican said that the Pope had answered two different questions relating to the topic at different times and that those who now published it, heavily edited it to the contrary and published them as a response to a single question. According to the release, the Pope was only referring to the right of the homosexuals to be accepted by THEIR OWN FAMILIES as siblings and children from that family but does not in any way imply support for them to have a homosexual family. The Pope according to the paper still opposes homosexual relationships or marriages, he said his comments where basically on civil union laws enacted by some countries as it benefits healthcare. The Pope remains opposed to the idea of homosexual marriages in line with the doctrine of the Catholic Church which defines marriage as a sacred sacrament between a man and a woman and views homosexual acts as sinful.
